About Us

Hi, I’m K — born and raised just outside the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. Growing up, the Hills were my playground. I spent my days hiking, exploring, and soaking in all the beauty nature had to offer. I’ve always had a creative spirit and a love for learning new skills, and from a young age, I dreamed of being an entrepreneur and running my own business.

After high school, I took the college route and earned my degree, which led me to Iowa for a career. While I love my work, my heart still belongs to the Hills — their rugged beauty and peaceful charm continue to inspire me every day.

In my free time, I wanted to be more intentional about my skincare routine. I’ve always been drawn to organic, natural products, but I found it difficult to find truly pure options — made with essential oils, natural colorants, and without unnecessary additives. So, I decided to make my own. I started small, crafting products for myself and sharing them with friends and family. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and the idea for Black Hills Essence was born.

Every product I create is inspired by the landscapes, scents, and colors of the Black Hills — from fresh, piney blends to soft, floral notes.
